What do Faro and Cluj have in common?
Cluj-Napoca and Faro are located 3500km apart.
Faro is located in south-western Europe and Cluj-Napoca in south-eastern Europe. Cluj-Napoca is one of the largest cities in Romania and, like Faro, it has an identity marked by historical heritage, multiculturalism and the natural beauty of its landscapes. The Artiști Împreună (Artists Together) movement started by the Cluj-Napoca Cultural Centre and the Romanian Health Observatory, with the support of the Banca Transylvania banking institution inspired the project “The Role of Art in Times of Crisis”. |
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we challenged artists from all over the Algarve to develop art projects. These had to inform and raise awareness among the general public to comply with the recommendations of the health authorities.
Just like in Artists Together, each artist selected a theme and developed an artwork in a format easily presented online.

#RESPONSABILITYThe pandemic crisis we are facing shows the importance of individual responsibility and of informing the various groups in our society.
Every rule not followed, every ignorance of the current situation has a huge impact. Our role in limiting the effects of the pandemic is to respect the rules of physical distance and isolation, protecting ourselves and others. |
#TOGETHERIn moments when physical distance is necessary, we need to feel together.
We need to be with those who are alone; transmit closeness to our relatives; be in solidarity and help those who need it. More than ever we need to feel that we belong to the same community. That we are part of a solidarity network. |
#HEROESIn this emergency we must protect the most vulnerable and thank those who are on the front line: the heroes.
Those who are not allowed to stay at home. Those who wake up first and go to bed last. Those in health who save lives, those who use their production capacity. Those who donate or bring food to the most isolated people. Those who guarantee access to medicines. To them we offer our support, recognition and respect. |
