AlgarveShopping hosts the exhibition “Europe at Home”, a photography and literature collective exhibition by several European artists that aims to unite different European cities and bring an artistic perspective on the particular moment in which we live, mostly "at home" (#EuropeAtHome).
Until the 31st of August, Algarve Shopping visitors have the opportunity to know the artistic works by 54 photographers and authors from 27 European cities, as well as access further content via smartphone - each piece has associated QR codes that allow access to more detailed information about each city, artist and work.
Among the authors, there are also two Portuguese. Sandro William Junqueira is a writer, director and teacher of dramatic expression, having published several novels, including “No Céu Não Limões” (2014, finalist for the APE Award – Portuguese Writers Association) and “Quando as Girafas Baixam o Pescoço” (2017, finalist for the SPA Awards - Portuguese Society of Authors). The exhibition also shows the work of the photographer Vasco Célio, who has pursued a continual demand for a documentary gaze over Europe, and Africa. He has several photo publications, as well as collective exhibitions, commissioned by different institutions, curators, researchers, and other artists.
“Europe at Home” a European project launched by ‘Faro2027’ The project "Europe at Home" and this exhibition arise within the scope of Faro's candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2027. The city of Faro, through 'Faro2027', invited several European cities that present culture as one of their main axis of development, to decode this particular moment in History through the photographs of artists and through the texts of literary authors. Each city participating in the “Europe at Home” project invited a photographer and a writer to produce images and texts that portray the experience of latent social isolation in the daily lives of their communities, a consequence of the pandemic crisis.
Since 2020, the network of cities and artists "Europe at Home" has been growing. What was a digital-only project now takes on a new form in the first exhibition in Algarve/Portugal.
The exhibition is part of “Cultura no Centro”, a Sonae Sierra's project that aims to support artists and cultural entities at national and local level. Throughout 2021, various artistic activities and events will be held at AlgarveShopping, in order to make culture accessible to all visitors.
