What do Faro and Cluj have in common?
Cluj-Napoca and Faro are located 3500km apart.
Faro is located in south-western Europe and Cluj-Napoca in south-eastern Europe. Cluj-Napoca is one of the largest cities in Romania and, like Faro, it has an identity marked by historical heritage, multiculturalism and the natural beauty of its landscapes. The Artiști Împreună (Artists Together) movement started by the Cluj-Napoca Cultural Centre and the Romanian Health Observatory, with the support of the Banca Transylvania banking institution inspired the project “The Role of Art in Times of Crisis”. |
During the state of emergency declared as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, we challenged artists from all over the Algarve to create pieces of art that both inform and raise awareness among the general public of the importance of following and complying with the recommendations put forward by health authorities for the common good.
Just like in the Artiști Împreună (Artists Together) project, each artist selected a theme, producing a piece of art that could be easily displayed online.

#RESPONSABILITYThis pandemic has shown us the importance of individual responsibility and of providing clear, accessible information to all levels of society more clearly than ever before.
Every person we come into contact with, every rule we break, every small gesture made that ignores the seriousness of the current situation faced has huge repercussions. The role we have to play in limiting the effects of the pandemic is as simple as following social distancing rules, and therefore protecting ourselves and others. |
#TOGETHERNow, when we are physically far away from each other, it is more important than ever to feel as if we are in this together.
We need to make sure we’re there for anyone who might be alone, for whatever reason. Keep our families emotionally close. Provide support, and help those in need. Now, more than ever before, we need to feel that we belong to the same community, that we are part of an interconnected network of goodwill and solidarity. |
#HEROESIn the midst of this emergency, we need to protect the most vulnerable and thank those on the front line.
Our thoughts go to the heroes: those who are not allowed to stay at home, those who are up first and last in bed, those who save lives, those who are able to produce what we need, those who donate or deliver food to the most isolated members of our communities and those who ensure we have access to medicine... We give what we can to these people: our support, acknowledgement and respect. “The Role of Art in Times of Crisis” A selection of Portuguese and Romanian works of art focussed on a common objective: to highlight the importance of art in times of crisis. |
